ANZAC Day at Cobram Secondary College
At Cobram Secondary College, ANZAC Day is far more than a ceremony on the calendar — it is one of the most significant and meaningful events in our school year.
Each year, our school community comes together to honour the service and sacrifice of the men and women who have served Australia and New Zealand in times of war, conflict and peacekeeping. Through reflection, storytelling and community connection, our students develop a deep understanding of courage, mateship, resilience and service — values that continue to shape the community of tomorrow.
Since 2021, our annual ANZAC Day Ceremony has grown into a major community event, bringing together students, staff, families, veterans, community organisations and local primary schools in a powerful display of remembrance and respect. The ceremony reflects the strong connection between our school and the wider Cobram community, and reinforces our belief that learning extends far beyond the classroom.
A unique feature of our ANZAC Day commemorations is our Rosemary Garden, designed in the shape of the Rising Sun badge. Each plaque within the garden honours a fallen local soldier, many of whom are also remembered through our school house names. The garden serves as a lasting reminder to students of the sacrifices made by previous generations and the importance of remembering local stories and histories.
Our ceremony regularly includes:
- Student leaders and speakers
- The Australian Defence Force catafalque party and honour guard
- Musical performances and The Last Post
- Community and RSL involvement
- Participation from local primary schools and community groups
- Opportunities for students to lead and contribute to the event
- Aircraft fly past Cobram Pipe Band
ANZAC Day at CSC is also an important educational experience. Students are encouraged to explore Australia’s military history, reflect on the human impact of conflict, and consider how they can contribute positively to their own communities through leadership, empathy and service.
The ceremony has become a defining part of our school culture — one that demonstrates our commitment to community, student leadership and creating meaningful traditions that connect generations.
At CSC, we believe that by honouring the past, we help shape thoughtful, respectful and engaged young people who will help create the community of tomorrow.
