Wellbeing

At Cobram Secondary College, student wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do. We believe that young people learn best when they feel safe, supported, connected and valued. Our approach to wellbeing is proactive, inclusive and focused on supporting every student to thrive — academically, socially and emotionally.

Our Vision and Values

We take a whole-school approach to wellbeing, recognising that wellbeing is not an add-on, but a foundation for learning and growth. Wellbeing is fully embedded into year level teams and works directly with our teaching & learning team to support our students.

Our wellbeing practices are guided by the belief that:

Wellbeing supports learning

students are better able to engage, persist and succeed when their wellbeing needs are met.

Early intervention and prevention matter

noticing concerns early and responding effectively helps students feel supported before challenges escalate.

Every student matters

wellbeing is everyone’s responsibility and is embedded across teaching, relationships and school culture.

What Wellbeing Means for Our Students

  • At Cobram Secondary College, wellbeing means that students:
Feel safe, supported, respected and included at school
  • Have trusted adults they can turn to for help or guidance
  • Develop skills to manage emotions, relationships and challenges
  • Feel a strong sense of belonging and connection to their school community
  • Are supported to grow in confidence, resilience and independence

We recognise that wellbeing looks different for every student, and we aim to meet students where they are, providing the right support at the right time.

Our Whole-School Approach

Our wellbeing framework is informed by the SafeMINDS ‘Notice, Inquire, Plan’ model, which supports staff to:

  • Notice changes in student behaviour engagement or wellbeing
  • Inquire with care, curiosity and compassion
  • Plan appropriate supports and responses in partnership with students, families and support services

This approach is complemented by a strong focus on Social and Emotional Learning (SEL), aligned with the Victorian Curriculum Personal and Social Capabilities. Through learning and wellbeing programs and everyday interactions, students develop skills such as self-awareness, emotional regulation, resilience and responsible decision-making.

Our Wellbeing Outcomes

Through our wellbeing approach, we aim for every student to:

  • Feel safe at school and confident to seek support when needed
  • Experience a strong sense of connectedness and belonging
  • Feel respected and valued for who they are, with diversity celebrated
  • Be ready and supported to engage in meaningful learning
  • Show ongoing growth in Personal and Social Capabilities, supporting lifelong learning and wellbeing
