The Music Program at Cobram Secondary College is renowned for its commitment to student development as musicians and community members. The program provides Instrumental lessons for many instruments, with a major focus on instruments of the Concert Band: Woodwind (Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, Saxophone), Brass (Trumpet French Horn, Trombone, Euphonium, Tuba) and Percussion (Tuned and Untuned). We also run vocal lessons at all levels of development. Our Core Ensemble Program includes three levels of Concert Band (Beginner, Intermediate and Senior), a Jazz Ensemble, a Vocal Ensemble, a Guitar Ensemble and various chamber ensembles, giving our students the opportunity to be involved in a variety of musical experiences.

The Instrumental Music Program provides instruction in a variety of instruments, as well as providing opportunities for musical growth in an extensive ensemble program. Every enrolled student has a weekly instrumental lesson and is involved in at least one ensemble per instrument studied. The Instrumental Music Program is a fully integrated part of our school curriculum and is considered an essential component of individual educational development.

In addition to learning musical skills, our music students develop the following skills by being involved in the band: communication; active listening; empathy; teamwork; emotional connection; confidence; creativity; independent thought; attention to detail; problem solving and critical thinking.

Our Instrumental Music Program is fully integrated with Classroom Music, which is compulsory for all Year Seven students and is an option for all students from Year 9 – 12. Music theory, composition, song writing, recording and solo/group performance make up the various components of the curriculum.
